4 Days Uganda Safari to Lake Mburo and Gorilla Trekking

4 Days Uganda wildlife safari in Lake Mburo offers the best of gorilla trekking in the tropical rainforest and game viewing in the savanna grassland. On this gorilla and wildlife combo, expect to explore interact with mountain gorillas in the wild, engage in a game drive and a boat cruise. Mountain gorillas will be trekked in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and this will be done in one of the gorilla sectors.

About 24 fully habituated gorilla groups are distributed across Bwindi National Park all distributed in the 4 gorilla sectors (Rushaga, Nkuringo, Buhoma, and Ruhija). The gorilla families to expect to track include in Bwindi National Park include Mukiza, Mubare gorilla group, Bweza, Bikingi, Kutu, Kahungye, Nshongi, Mishaya, Christmas, Habinyanja gorilla group, Rushegura group, Katwe gorilla family, Kyaguriro group, Bitukura group, Oruzogo, and Busingye group, etc. Each of these habituated gorilla groups is trekked by a maximum of eight (8) guests.

Lake Mburo National Park is Uganda’s most accessible destination away from the heart of Kampala or Entebbe City. On Lake Mburo National Park safari, expect to engage in a guided game drive where you will encounter different wildlife species such as zebras, buffaloes, leopards, impalas, hyenas, reedbucks, oribis, topis, Defassa waterbucks, elands, and many bird species.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Pick up & transfer to Lake Mburo National Park, boat cruise

Expect to be picked up from your respective hotels in Kampala after you have had a delicious breakfast. First, you will have insight into what your 4 days Bwindi gorillas & Lake Mburo safari is all about. Today, you will be transferred to Lake Mburo National Park and your journey will involve driving along the Kampala-Mbarara route for about 4 hours.

En route to Lake Mburo National Park, the possible stopover spots include the Equator crossing. After you have taken adequate pictures, expect to connect to Lake Mburo National Park where you will have lunch. After lunch, you will have a boat cruise on Lake Mburo for about 2-3 hours and this water excursion comes with great sights of hippos, crocodiles, and water birds.

Day 2: Game drive & drive to Bwindi

Enjoy a hefty breakfast at the comfort of your lodge or camp and after, expect to enjoy the best of guided game drive. A guided game drive along game tracks in Lake Mburo will involve spotting different wildlife species including giraffes, zebras, antelopes, buffaloes, hyenas, and variety of bird species.

After the 2-3 hours guided game drive, you will exit Lake Mburo National Park for Bwindi National Park. En route, expect to enjoy the breathtaking views of the countryside landscapes characterized by stunning rolling hills.

Day 3: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi National Park

Following a delicious breakfast, expect to get briefed about gorilla trekking guidelines. The briefing will be done at Buhoma sector or any sector of your interest. You will also be assigned a habituated gorilla group to trek. The briefing session will run from 7:00 am and by around 8:00 am, you will be accompanied to the jungles to search for the mountain gorilla group allocated to you.

To participate in the trek to see mountain gorillas, you should be above 15 years. The trek is likely to take you between 2 and 6 hours. The gorilla trek in Bwindi includes an hour for up close and personal encounter with a family of mountain gorillas in the wild. The gorilla trekking is one of the kind adventures and expect to explore different behaviors of these behaviors and taking pictures.

After the gorilla trek, you will have great time at the lodge. In the evening, you will spice the long gorilla trekking tour with the Batwa community visit. At the Batwa community, you will interact with the Batwa pygmies, learn their different ways of life, traditions, and also get entertained by the locals as they dance before you.
